gratitude / growth moment 003
gratitude— there is a very helpful mindset that I’ve been exploring, where I tell myself “this might not be so”.
As I say the words to myself, I picture a part of my environment, something mundane and ordinary. It begins in the morning with my bed, which I imagine is transforming into a puddle of water right beneath my body, leaving me wet and cold on the floor. As I visualize the absence of my bed, I let the sense of loss fill me. This is a thought and feeling I sit with for a while before shifting focus to the softness of the sheets and weight of the duvet that’s pressed against me, returning to the warmth and comfort that I am actually experiencing. This momentary recognition that things as they are are subject to change helps form an appreciation for the current, perhaps fleeting state. It helps me realize nothing is guaranteed. Playing with the idea of loss is a necessary and beautiful reminder of how incredible the smallest things can be.
I’ve perhaps always had a rather dark and imaginative side, and I can tell you that this exercise, when done thinking about removing a loved one from my reach, absolutely cripples me. It’s a great reminder to reach out and connect immediately, and not to wait. Lately I’ve been incredibly wrapped up in my own world and so this one was really necessary for me today.
growth— I’ve been on a list for a very long time awaiting a match as a “mentor” to a deserving entrepreneur. The company acting as matchmaker is called Futurpreneur, in case you want to check it out. I’m thrilled to report I’ve finally found a great fit and I’ve connected with the founders to begin walking through their needs and learning about their business goals. This sort of stuff always fuels me, makes me feel alive. So I’m looking very forward to our check ins and supporting them as they progress from startup through to growth, establishment, and expansion!
